NONVIOLENT COMMUNICATION FOR RIGHT SPEECH
In-Person Event; Sponsored by “Metta ? Equanimity”
Thursday, Sept. 24th, 6:00 - 7:15pm
White Heron Sangha, 6615 Bay Laurel Pl, Avila Beach
The Buddhist teachings on Right Speech invite us to attend not only to what we say, but to when, how, and why we speak. Is what we are saying true? Is it helpful? Is this the right time? Can we speak with kindness while remaining honest?
These questions turn communication into a field of contemplative practice. Our speech reveals the condition of the mind, shapes the relationships around us, and can either contribute to suffering or help bring it to an end.
Nonviolent Communication (NVC) offers practical ways to bring the awareness cultivated in meditation into relationship. It invites us to notice the sensations and emotions arising within us, recognize the interpretations we add to what we actually observe, and listen beneath our stories for the what matters most.
NVC also asks us to listen differently, to intentionally make space for another person’s experience, alongside the humility to recognize that their reality may be different from our own. This kind of listening does not require agreement. It asks for presence, curiosity, and a willingness to be changed by what we receive.
Join us at White Heron Sangha for an embodied evening of Nonviolent Communication for Right Speech. Through guided somatic attunement, paired practice, and group reflection, we will explore how greater awareness can create greater choice - and greater peace - in the ways we speak, listen, and perceive.
This gathering continues the practice introduced at our August workshop while remaining fully accessible to newcomers. Everyone is welcome. No previous experience with Nonviolent Communication is necessary.
